Dried Fig Season Opened in the Homeland of Figs

Dried fig season has started in Nazilli, the homeland of figs, which is considered the fruit of paradise.

Dried figs, which spread to the world from this region and are accepted as one of the strategic food products of our country, constitute approximately 2% of agricultural exports. Nuri ARSLAN, our Chairman of the Board of Directors, made a statement about the start of the fig season, which is considered mainly as dried figs in the Nazilli region;

“I wish the 2021/2022 season to be beneficial and bring profit to all our producers and our members who trade in figs. The buying season of dried figs, which is one of the most important and valuable fruits donated to us by these lands, has begun. On this occasion, we visit our members who trade and export figs. I believe that the economic losses brought by the pandemic process will be compensated as soon as possible. The best way to compensate for this is export. Last season, 65 thousand tons of dried figs were exported from Turkey. It’s hard to say for sure, but the data from the Export units show that the 2021-2022 season will be much better. We should diversify and add value to this product, which we mostly sell to Germany and France, and introduce it to the United States, Japan and the Far East as well. Figs are a value-added product. It is used not only as a fruit, but also as an ingredient in cakes, bakery products and other foods abroad. In this sense, we must leave the conflicts within us and find ways to market the fig in a different and more profitable way.

As Nazilli Chamber of Commerce, we took a break from the international food fairs we attend every year due to the pandemic. This year, we took our place again at the international Anuga food fair. Foreign fair organizations that we organize in order to promote our products grown in our region, to contribute to their exports, and to help our members who want to export will continue. One of the issues we care about as NTO is to increase and diversify the exports of the region. I believe that the export trainings we conducted together with AYSO on this subject will yield results in a short time.” He said.
